Scottish Ballet's A Streetcar Named Desire Artistic Director Christopher Hampson
October 4, 8 p.m. (North American Premiere) Mahalia Jackson Theater
New Orleans takes center stage in Scottish Ballet’s extraordinary adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire. The company paired award-winning theater and film director Nancy Meckler, renowned for her work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, with internationally acclaimed choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa to create this tour-de-force full-length ballet. Hailed as “heartbreakingly beautiful” (The Independent) and “simply gripping from start to finish” (STV.tv), this gorgeous ensemble of 30 dancers infuses drama and dance to brilliantly tell the iconic story. Set to a jazz-inspired score and with striking vintage styled costumes and sets, “the whole production is a seamless blend of music, dance and drama.” Londondance.com
“The result is everything you could want of Tennessee Williams – florid, poetic, and poisonously beautiful – with just the right amount of New Orleans seasoning to the action.”—London Evening Standard
