Five exceptionally talented young dancers, ages 14-18, auditioned and were selected to represent the NORD/NOBA Center for Dance on tour from California to New York. These students will took classes, visited universities, performed, and attended performances. This talened ensemble served as ambassadors for the city as dedicated and hopeful teens with extradordinary talent for more than 7 years.
NORDC/NOBA Center For Dance Bio
For 20 years, the NORDC/NOBA Center For Dance, a nationally award-winning, cultural, community partnership of the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission and the New Orleans Ballet Association, has reached more than 6,000 children with free after-school instruction. Founded in 1992, The Center was born out of a need to make dance accessible to all school-age children. The program currently serves more than 350 students, ages 6-18, each semester through free dance training at 11 sites citywide. Through a professional faculty, master classes, a mentor program and field trips, the Center works with each child to cultivate dreams and strengthen futures. The Center has been featured in performances with Luna Negra Dance Theatre, PerksDanceMusicTheater, Urban Ballet Theater, and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company as well as at the Essence Music Festival, New Orleans Dance Festival, Mississippi Children’s Theater Series, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Recognized nationally as a leading model in arts education, the program has garnered awards and recognition from the White House (2002 Coming Up Taller Award), National Dance Education Organization, the National Endowment for the Arts, state and local government.
