Artistic Directors Dwight Rhoden & Desmond Richardson
Saturday, April 22, 8 pm
Mahalia Jackson Theater
Led by former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater virtuosos and “So You Think You Can Dance” mentors, choreographer Rhoden and superhuman dancer Richardson, this ensemble is “as sleek as jet planes and dramatic as runway models” raves the Village Voice. The evening is a thrilling joyride of daredevil dancing and features classics and new works, including Rhoden’s moving solo for Richardson, Imprint/Maya, set to poetry of the great Maya Angelou and the rock concert-style finale, Star Dust, the critically-acclaimed tribute to the late, glam rock icon David Bowie. With a soundtrack of nine Bowie anthems, including Changes, Let’s Dance, Heroes and Modern Love, Star Dust is an epic homage to a groundbreaking superstar that influenced music, fashion, and pop culture while inspiring legions of fans globally. In colorful costumes and glitter painted face tattoos, the dancers embody the essence of Bowie and are “utterly transfixing.”
Star Dust is “inventive, emotionally satisfying and just plain joyful…the audience was ravenous for more.” Billboard.
“Cross-cultural ballet with attitude…so much fun.” The Washington Post
